It’s mostly about the various forms of motor sport that has given me such a lifetime of excitement and pleasure. And it’s still continuing. From the mid seventies I specialised in speed hill-climbing right up to the nineties. Starting with a E Type Jaguar then a front-engined sports racer, the Murrain, which helped me achieve considerable success, then finally a Pilbeam single seater, interspersed with drives in my father’s spectacular 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C and 1955 Cooper-Norton. At the dawn of the new century I wanted a new challenge, something a bit longer than the 1000 yards or so hill-climb tracks that I had become accustomed to. The desire to experience various motor-sport disciplines become stronger. The 10,000 mile London to Sydney Marathon 2004 appealed and so started a new addiction – long distance rallying. We also managed the Carrera Sudamericana in 2006 and our next adventure is the Karma Enduro 2008, a challenge driving in India in the Indian made Hindustan Ambassador. Now that will be a challenge!!! It’s a worthwhile cause raising money for two charities. I’ll be busy for the next year trying to raise a minimum of £8,500. |
